ICM SCOPE

The International Congress on the Mechanical Behaviour of Materials (ICM) objectives are to foster research on the mechanical behaviour of materials, to promote related international cooperation among scientists and engineers and to provide means for the public dissemination of the results from these efforts.

The ICM holds international conferences every four years. These conferences are intended to cover progress on all aspects of the mechanical behaviour of materials from both the macroscopic and microscopic viewpoints. The scope of materials of interest include both industrial materials, e.g., metals, alloys, polymers, ceramics, composites, and advanced materials under development or used in particular applications.

These conferences bring together users, producers and researchers, both engineers and scientists who have a common interest in various aspects of materials behaviour. The objective is to facilitate and encourage the exchange of knowledge and experience among different communities involved in using, improving, developing, assessing and conducting basic research. The conferences aim to explore the scale integration (micro-, meso- and macroscopic) behaviour as well as an integrated approach to aspects of design, manufacturing and mechanical reliability.

Previous conferences were:

ICM-1 1971 Kyoto, Japan
ICM-2 1975 Boston, USA
ICM-3 1779 Cambridge, UK
ICM-4 1983 Stockholm, Sweden
ICM-5 1987 Beijing, China
ICM-6 1991 Kyoto, Japan
ICM-7 1995 The Hague, The Netherlands
ICM-8 1999 Victoria, Canada
ICM-9 2003 Geneva, Swiss
ICM-10 2007 Busan, Korea

The next conference, ICM-11 will be held in Como Lake, Italy, May 29 – June 2, 2011.
